Kappa Alpha Order Placed on Disciplinary Probation through Spring Semester

The Office of Student Integrity and Kappa Alpha Order National Administrative Office imposed sanctions on the Alpha Sigma chapter.

Following an investigation by the Office of Student Integrity and the Kappa Alpha Order’s National Administrative Office, the Alpha Sigma chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order has been issued disciplinary probation until May 3, 2015.

The Office of Student Integrity found the chapter responsible for violating sections of the Student Code of Conduct addressing behavior that endangers any person, including self, and hazing.

During disciplinary probation, the chapter is restricted to academic activities and approved non-academic activities, which include recruiting new members, holding meetings to conduct chapter business, and participating in intramurals, brotherhood, and service activities. The chapter may not participate in Greek Week or Homecoming for the 2014-15 year, nor host, co-host, or participate in social events on campus, with or without alcohol.

The chapter was also found to have violated the Kappa Alpha Order Risk Management Policy, specifically the policies on hazing. The national office will fine the chapter and is mandating that the chapter revise its new member education program. All members must also complete the national office’s Risk Management Course.
