Gubernatorial Inauguration Ceremony Planned on Tech Campus

A major event is planned for Monday on the Georgia Tech campus when the state's top elected official is sworn into office and delivers his inaugural address.
Approximately 6,000 are expected in McCamish Pavilion to attend the private ceremony for Governor-elect Brian Kemp and Lieutenant Governor-elect Geoff Duncan, which could have a significant impact on afternoon travel in the area.
Georgia Tech will maintain its normal class schedule and operations. However, in order to accommodate the unusually high volume of traffic anticipated, supervisors are requested to be flexible and allow modified work schedules as appropriate — including teleworking and/or flexible work periods.

Officially, Georgia Tech has no role in the inauguration. Located at the intersection of 10th and Fowler Streets, McCamish Pavilion was rented to stage the ticketed event. More than 70 chartered buses will ferry most attendees to and from the arena.
The Georgia Tech Police Department will be assisting in managing traffic for the event as people begin to arrive. Chief of Police Rob Connolly said his officers will be working to limit the traffic impact in the immediate vicinity of McCamish but asked the campus to plan accordingly.
“Keep in mind we will have many visitors who are not familiar with the campus,” Connolly said. “If at all possible, avoid the area on Monday.”
