Will Your Vehicle Pass the Test?

The Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) has started a new initiative, the Auto Report Card, to reduce the number of stolen vehicles and thefts from vehicles on campus.

The Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) has started a new initiative, the Auto Report Card, to reduce the number of stolen vehicles and thefts from vehicles on campus.

“Officers will survey various locations on campus to check for unsecured vehicles and valuables left in plain sight, and each vehicle will receive a ‘report card’ with a passing or failing rating,” said Officer Jessica Howard, who works with GTPD’s Crime Prevention Unit. “If the vehicle fails, the officer will include a note with the reasoning behind the score. In addition, helpful theft prevention tips will be included on the report card.”

GTPD will be strategic in the planning of locations and times of the day when report cards are issued, in order to avoid the report cards sitting for extended periods of time on vehicles.

For more information about the Auto Report Card, see the attached flyer (pdf). To proactively prep your own vehicle, follow these tips:

  • Lock your doors.
  • Remove valuables from your vehicle.
  • Hide anything from view that is left in the vehicle.
