Hometown - Medford, New York
Why did you choose to study computer science?
My experience with computer science began in high school when I registered for an HTML web design course. Initially, I wasn’t sure if I would be interested in it since I struggled with math and believed that computer science relied heavily on mathematical understanding. But after taking that class freshman year, I realized that computer science doesn’t necessarily fit under one blanket term. Despite being part of the math department at my school, the course just required a basic understanding of mathematical topics and focused more on problem solving. Computer science appeals to me because it combines the creativity of humanities courses with the problem-solving skills required of math and science.
Why did you choose to attend Georgia Tech?
I wasn't sure what school would be a good fit for me when I first started applying to colleges last year. I was open to going to an out-of-state school, but I never envisioned myself in Georgia. However, when I was researching colleges, Georgia Tech came up as one of the top schools for computer science. It seemed to have the exact curriculum and rigor I was looking for, as well as the prime location in a major city. I also felt like the threads computer science curriculum at Tech would be a good fit for me. The option to personalize my degree allows me to explore different aspects of computing and choose my focus, preparing myself for today’s job market which demands adaptability and well-roundedness. It’s a unique, student-directed program that will allow me to succeed in the workplace.
What are your goals after graduation?
My career goals after graduation are similar to others’ — to find a great job in my field of choice, which is currently software development. I hope to explore more options through the classes I take here and when I finally decide on my personal threads next year.
What organizations have you joined at Tech?
