A Week's Worth of Fun: Homecoming is Here
Homecoming is here, and the campus is celebrating some of Tech’s oldest and most beloved traditions this week.
With a 12:20 p.m. kickoff against Duke on Saturday, things will get started early, but the sound of the alarm clock will be worth it, given the day’s schedule of events.

Wednesday, Oct. 10
Powderpuff Frisbee Games and Cheerleading
All-male cheerleading squads will perform during all-female powderpruff frisbee games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Burger Bowl.
Mini Powdered Donut Contest
You may know about the Mini 500, but the other "mini" event of Homecoming week involves eating powdered donuts as quickly as possible. The spectacle will go down on Tech Green at noon.
Chalking Contest
Look for students drawing on the theme of “ShipWRECKed at Tech” on Tech Walk between 1 and 4 p.m.
Tech SaBOATage
Team trivia will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
Thursday, Oct. 11
Enjoy carnival games, booths, food, and fun from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tech Green.
Mock Rock
Student groups perform original acts of lip-syncing, dancing, and other talents at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Tickets are required and will be distributed outside the Ferst Center on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 12
Students are encouraged to invite a faculty member, staff member, teaching assistant, or instructor to lunch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Tickets are $8 per pair.
Celebrate 130 years of Georgia Tech with a deep dive into early history and the stories behind Tech traditions — presented by Marilyn Somers, director of the Georgia Tech Living History Program, whose mission is to collect, preserve, and present the history of the Institute through the stories of its people.
Pomp Display
Works of art made from tiny pieces of paper will decorate campus, primarily in the area of Greek housing. Judging will take place between noon and 5 p.m. Friday, so take a walk and enjoy the creativity.
From 1 to 2 p.m. in the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center, President G.P. “Bud” Peterson will share an update on the Institute’s local, regional, and global impact.
Georgia Tech’s Mini 500 Race is a tradition that has been an essential part of Homecoming since 1969. The race is an intense tricycle competition with various organizations competing as teams. Come out to watch the fun and support fellow students, from the sidewalks in Yellow Jacket Alley or around Peters Parking Deck. The race begins at 5 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 13
The annual Freshmen Cake Race begins at 6 a.m. in front of McCamish Pavilion. All participants receive cupcakes at the finish line. Whether participating or viewing, the race is a fun event and one of Tech’s oldest traditions.
The Ramblin’ Wreck Parade begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of Fowler and Eighth Streets. Watch vehicles and contraptions of all kinds drive down Fowler Street before the big game.
At 10 a.m., Tech Tower Lawn will be the site of the best pregame party around — the Ramblin’ Wreck Rally Tailgate. Entrance to the party is free. Pick up Georgia Tech apparel, take pictures with the Wreck, and enjoy live entertainment.
Cheer on the Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd as they take on Duke at 12:20 p.m., and find out who has been named this year’s Mr. and Ms. Georgia Tech. Tickets are still available for purchase.
Each year, Mr. and Ms. Georgia Tech are selected through a process that includes an application, interviews, and voting, and the results will be announced during halftime. The two will serve as Georgia Tech ambassadors for the remainder of the current academic year.
