Georgia Tech Engineering Programs among Top 5 in U.S. News Rankings

Institute Ranked Eighth Best Public University; 35th among Colleges Nationwide

All of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s engineering programs ranked in the top five for schools offering that field of study, with the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering sitting atop its discipline, according to the 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. Undergraduate degrees in aerospace, chemical, civil and mechanical engineering programs were all ranked No. 2 in their respective fields.

The Institute ranked No. 35 this year, tied with Brandeis University and the University of Florida, among national universities. Georgia Tech retained its status as a top 10 public university in the country for individual undergraduate programs, slipping one notch from No. 7 to No. 8. The Institute ranked No. 4 for undergraduate engineering programs at schools that award doctoral degrees.

Georgia Tech also saw significant movement in two areas: The Scheller College of Business climbed from No. 31 to No. 21 in the best undergraduate business programs rankings. The school holds the spot along with nine other universities, including the University of Georgia. Among Most Innovative Schools, Georgia Tech moved from No. 12 to No. 4.

“We are delighted to see such a vigorous across-the-board showing again for Georgia Tech in the U.S. News & World Report rankings,” said Georgia Tech President G.P. “Bud” Peterson. “Our traditionally strong engineering programs continue to be recognized as among the nation’s best, and it’s also gratifying to see our Scheller College of Business earn a well-deserved jump in the rankings. Those on our campus know how deeply ingrained the innovative spirit is at Georgia Tech, so it’s rewarding to see that aspect of the Institute move up significantly, too.”

The Institute joins the University of Georgia as one of two universities from the state of Georgia ranked among the top 15 schools in the nation.

In other specialized categories, Georgia Tech ranked No. 13 for Best Undergraduate Teaching, No. 15 on the Best Colleges for Veterans list and No. 23 in the High School Guidance Counselor Rankings.
