Athletics Kicks Off Initiative to Improve Facilities

Georgia Tech athletics publicly unveiled its Athletics Initiative 2020 on Thursday, which aims to raise $125 million for athletics facilities, endowments and operations.

Georgia Tech athletics publicly unveiled its Athletics Initiative 2020 on Thursday, which aims to raise $125 million for athletics facilities, endowments and operations.

Athletics Initiative 2020 addresses the following needs for Georgia Tech athletics:

FACILITIES - $88 Million

  • Edge/Rice Center Renovation - $70 million
  • Russ Chandler Stadium Renovation, Phase II - $9 million
  • Football Locker Room Renovation - $4.5 million
  • Men's/Women's Basketball Locker Rooms Renovation - $4.5 million

ENDOWMENTS - $25 Million

OPERATIONS - $12 Million

  • Athletic Scholarship Fund - $4.5 million
  • Sport-Specfic - $4.5 million
  • Athletics Director's Initiative - $3 million

“Athletics Initiative 2020 stays true to Georgia Tech’s DNA, with a goal of launching our athletics programs to new heights of excellence and innovation while helping us strengthen key areas and target strategic priorities with determined spirit, minus excess and frills,” Georgia Tech Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury said.

“The goals of Athletics Initiative 2020 are simple – to ensure that we can recruit the special type of student-athlete that can excel both athletically and academically at Georgia Tech, provide the tools and technology needed to build a better student-athlete once they’re here and to reach our expectations of winning at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics,” Stansbury continued. “Excellence and innovation are in our DNA. Athletics Initiative 2020 will help us stay true to those standards for years to come.”
