The highlight of the fall semester is here — Yellow Jacket football season. The first home game is Saturday, Sept. 9, at 12:30 p.m. against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Read below to brush up on a few Georgia Tech football traditions and learn how to get last-minute tickets.

“Buzzweiser” Song between Third and Fourth Quarters

The “Buzzweiser” song is played between the third and fourth quarters of every Georgia Tech home football game. During this song, students typically “bob” up and down to the beat. Join in on this fun song and dance.

Entrance of Ramblin’ Wreck

The name “Ramblin’ Wreck” gained recognition in the 1920s when Tech graduates began building makeshift mechanical buggies to improve a poor transportation system in South America. As the reputation of the engineers spread, so did their nickname. In 1961, a beautifully restored 1930 Model A Ford made its first appearance on Grant Field.

The car became the embodiment of the name “Ramblin’ Wreck” and now leads the Yellow Jackets on the field before each home game. Look for the iconic Tech symbol and remember, freshmen cannot touch the car until the end of their first year.

Yellow Jacket Alley

Two hours and 30 minutes prior to each home game, head over to Brittain Drive to see and cheer on players as they walk into Bobby Dodd Stadium. Listen for the whistle to blow 15 minutes before the team is to arrive.

Steam Whistle after Touchdowns

The familiar shriek of the steam whistle not only sounds to indicate a class change, but is also used to signal a Yellow Jacket touchdown. Listen for the whistle at this week’s game.

“What’s the Good Word”?

If ever asked this question during a game, the only appropriate response is, “To hell with Georgia.”

Georgia Tech Fight Song

"Ramblin' Wreck" is played directly after a field goal or safety and preceded by "Up with the White and Gold" after a touchdown. Visit the Georgia Tech Traditions website for lyrics.

Tickets

Students who have not purchased season tickets still have the opportunity to gain admission to games. Free single game tickets will be distributed the week of each home game on a first-come, first-served basis. Approximately 2,500 single game tickets are available each week for seating in the South End Zone, Sections 133-136. Students with these tickets should enter the stadium at Gate 10 (North Avenue and Techwood Drive entrance) with a valid student BuzzCard.

The single game ticket delivery method for 2017 is mobile delivery. Reserve a free single game ticket online at ramblinwreck.com/students. The online registration opens at 8 a.m. and closes the following Friday at 3 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

Jacksonville State – Registration opens Sept. 4

Pittsburgh – Registration opens Sept. 18

North Carolina – Registration opens Sept. 25

Wake Forest – Registration opens Oct. 16

Virginia Tech – Registration opens Nov. 6

Georgia – Registration opens Nov. 20
