Georgia Tech Brings Home Collegiate Club Swimming National Title

Georgia Tech’s men’s and women’s club swim teams combined to win a national title at the 2018 College Club Swimming and Diving National Championships. Georgia Tech hosted the event at the McAuley Aquatic Center. The Tech Swim Club improved times across the board from the 2017 championships where they finished sixth overall.

Tech took first place in the women’s division, clearing the rest of the field by nearly 200 points. It was a commanding victory for a team that finished thirteenth the year before.

Tech’s men improved to third place from fifth in 2017. Combined, the two teams amassed 1157 points to outpace second place finisher and defending national champion University of Virginia and overcoming perennial powerhouse collegiate swim clubs like Florida, North Carolina, Stanford, and Penn State.

Tech’s squad broke nearly all of their own team records in every event they fielded at the meet.  Tech’s Lindsay Knapp, Makenna Laffey, Rebecca Durham, Ally Nastasi, Ellie Ridgeway, Olivia Fassett, Abbie Cochell, Michael Quillen, Mathias Zacarias, Derek Wu, and Brian Woodbury combined for 11 individual and relay national titles. Laffey, Ridgeway, Nastasi, Knapp, Durham, and Jake Grant added 8 more silver and bronze finishes on their way to the national championship.
