In their own ways, each student makes an impact on Georgia Tech during their time on campus, but when computer science graduate Alex Perez of Marietta leaves, his absence will be keenly felt.

“When I first got to campus, there was no easy way to track where all the buses were,” Perez said. “When I was going to class, I didn’t know if a bus would be late or on time, and I wanted to be able to track those.”

His solution was an app that allowed users to see where the buses were on their routes. Perez’s bus route app worked so well that he was brought in on the project to upgrade the Institute’s main app. He worked with the Research Network Operations Center at Georgia Tech for two years on the new and improved campus app. In the end, it was the best app he had ever worked on.

Armed with those app development experiences, Perez secured an internship at Apple and then Uber. He’ll begin his post-graduation career at Uber in Silicon Valley, where he will look to make as much of an impact as he has on Georgia Tech.
