Looking for a class that doesn’t cost several hundred dollars to attend? Look no further. The Georgia Tech Police Department offers an abundance of safety classes to the Georgia Tech community, free of charge.

“For our self-defense classes we generally ask for a group of 10 or more. However, if there are fewer than 10 attendees we will still conduct class,” said Officer Jessica Howard, GTPD Crime Prevention. “Take advantage of the opportunity to gain additional knowledge at no cost to you.”

The classes include Self Defense, Active Shooter Training, Crime Prevention 101, Open Discussion Topics, Alcohol Awareness, Drug Prevention and more.

“Two of our top courses are Active Shooter and Crime Prevention 101,” Howard said. “Not only will you be exposed to valuable information, but these particular classes are also a part of the Emergency Preparedness Certificate Program in which you receive credit for attending.”

The Crime Prevention Unit within GTPD engages the campus community in order to reduce crime and create a safer environment. In addition to the classes and training, the unit offers a range of services to educate students, faculty and staff, on safety and awareness, including the Citizens Police Academy, bicycle registration, property registration, safety videos and the Live Safe App.

The complete list of classes can be found in a dropdown menu on the GTPD Class Request form online.
