Police Arrest 5 in Connection with Armed Robberies

Two separate armed robberies took place on Tech’s campus the week of May 2. Clery Act Safety Alerts were issued on May 3 and May 6 in relation to the incidents.

Thanks to the vigilance and tools of the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD), several perpetrators of campus crimes are now off the street.

Two separate armed robberies took place on Tech’s campus the week of May 2. Clery Act Safety Alerts were issued on May 3 and May 6 in relation to the incidents.

In response, GTPD’s patrol, traffic, and field investigations teams worked together to develop a tactical plan. Officers were able to identify the car — a black Toyota Camry — used in both incidents on campus. The car was again seen on campus May 7. Officers stopped the car, following a traffic violation, in the turnaround behind Clough Commons and identified the robbery suspects. A search of the vehicle revealed a handgun and a knife, which was believed to have been used in the May 6 incident.

Five suspects were interviewed by GTPD detectives and admitted to the crimes. The suspects were charged with multiple felonies and are now in Fulton County Jail.
