Four Things To Do during Labor Day Weekend

Atlanta offers many options for enjoying a long weekend on a budget.

Campus will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day, giving students, faculty, and staff an extra day to enjoy weekend activities both on campus and around the Atlanta area. 

A few things taking place this weekend:

  • Dragon Con, one of the largest sci-fi, comic, and gaming conventions in the world, takes places in downtown Atlanta through Monday. The Saturday parade down Peachtree Street is free and begins at 10 a.m. A Georgia Tech meetup will take place Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in the Hilton Hotel Lobby.
  • The Museum of Design Atlanta hosts an exhibit on Design for Healthy Living. The exhibit features the Atlanta BeltLine, the brainchild of Tech alumnus Ryan Gravel, and Wheat Street Garden, where many members of the Tech community volunteer. Entry is $5 with student ID.
  • Emory University’s Robert W. Woodruff Library hosts an exhibit on Bobby Jones, the famous Atlanta golfer and Tech alumnus. The exhibit is free.
  • Several Georgia Tech faculty members will participate in the Decatur Book Festival, either as speakers or introducers. The festival takes place in and around the downtown Decatur square through Sunday and is free and open to the public. Those involved who are affiliated with Tech include Karen Head, assistant pofessor  in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication; Lauren Neefe, Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow; J.C. Reilly, associate director of the undergraduate studies in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication; Robert Wood, associate professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication; Caroline Young, Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow; and undergraduate students Jack Anninos (civil engineering) and Tre'Saun Thomas (computational media).
