Eight Ways to Celebrate the Holidays in Atlanta

Atlanta offers numerous options for enjoying the winter holidays on a budget.

With the holidays near and the cold settling in, students are officially on winter break through Jan. 5. Soon, campus will close for the week, giving employees a chance to rest as well.

For those in town for the holidays and looking for activities to do during the break, Atlanta has plenty of options.

  • A Broadway Christmas Carol
    Time: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
    Location: Onstage Atlanta Theatre Company
    What: Three actors take on the role of 200 characters in this fun and humorous adaptation of a Broadway Christmas Carol.

  • Up On the Housetop!
    Time: 7 p.m.
    Location: Onstage Atlanta Theatre Company
    What: A family fun Christmas tale of Santa and his helpers.
Dec. 15 – Jan. 4
  • Garden Lights
    Time: 5 – 10 p.m.
    Location: Atlanta Botanical Garden
    What: The Atlanta Botanical Garden is decorated for the winter holidays with special decorations and sights only found this time of the year.
  • Winter Wonderland
    Time: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    Location: Fernbank Museum of Natural History
    What: The Fernbank Museum’s Winter Wonderland showcases different celebrations of Christmas from around the world.
  • Stone Mountain Christmas
    Time: See select shows for details
    Location: Stone Mountain Park
    What: A wide variety of holiday activities from musicals to interactive shows that allow guests to experience multiple holiday traditions.
  • Centennial Olympic Park Ice Rink
    Time: Holiday hours may vary, please check website for specific date timings
    Location: Centennial Olympic Park
    What: For just $12, a 90-minute ice skating session takes you from here to a icy winter wonderland. Admission price also includes skate rentals.

  • Atlanta Peach Drop
    Time: 11 a.m. – Midnight
    Location: Underground Atlanta
    What: Every year Atlanta celebrates the arrival of the New Year with its famous peach drop. The day consists of musical performances, carnival rides, food vendors, and much more fun for friends and families.
