Campus Groups Accept Donations for Holiday Drives

During the holiday season, groups across campus host a variety of donation drives.

In the weeks to come, most of us will spend spare moments at a superstore or online choosing the perfect gift for our loved ones. So while you’re out, why not pick up something to bring a little holiday cheer to a child or adult in need?  

During the holiday season, groups across campus host a variety of donation drives. Read on for details about some donation opportunities to consider:

Michael Isenhour Toy Drive
DETAILS: This annual drive is named after the former Georgia Tech student-athlete who lost his battle with leukemia. All proceeds go to the Atlanta Children’s Shelter.
WISH LIST: New, unwrapped toys.
DEADLINE: Student-athletes will be stationed outside every Bobby Dodd Stadium gate to collect toys before the Georgia Tech-Georgia game on Nov. 30.

Books and Bears Holiday Drive
DETAILS: The Library is partnering with Sheltering Arms Daycare to host this drive. About 2,500 children attend Sheltering Arms Daycare, some of which are children of Tech employees, which is located on Centennial Olympic Park Drive.
WISH LIST: New stuffed bears and books.
DEADLINE: Donations may be dropped off at the first floor of the Library until Dec. 17.

MOVE Salvation Army Collection
DETAILS: Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Experience (MOVE) is Georgia Tech’s umbrella organization for service opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. The special projects committee for the group is collecting items to donate to the Salvation Army.
WISH LIST: Books, clothing, household goods, and holiday decorations.
DEADLINE: Donations will be accepted until Dec. 13 at boxes (marked with MOVE stickers) at residence halls across campus.

IAAP and Westside Communities Toy Drive
DETAILS: The Tech chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals has partnered with Tech’s Westside Communities Task Force to collect toys for the Westside Communities Alliance.
WISH LIST: New, unwrapped toys and clothing for children 4-15 years old.
DEADLINE: Donations will be accepted until Dec. 12 at the following locations: gifts for ages 4-8 — Room 305, Lyman Hall or third floor of Scheller College of Business; ages 9-11 — first floor, Bunger Henry Building, College of Computing Building, or first floor, Wardlaw Center; and ages 12-15 — Georgia Tech Research Institute’s 14th Street or Cobb County locations.

Project Healthy Grandparent
DETAILS: Each year, the Women’s Resource Center adopts a family that is headed by a grandparent raising his or her grandchildren. This year’s grandparent is a grandmother raising grandchildren ages 4, 6, and 11.
WISH LIST: The family’s list includes jackets, pants, shirts, socks, and undergarments (sizes available upon request). Monetary contributions will also be accepted.
DEADLINE: Bring donations to the Women’s Resource Center, located in the Student Services Building, by Dec. 5.

Pediatric AIDS Holiday Gift Drive
DETAILS: AID Atlanta Women and Children’s Program will hold its annual Pediatric Holiday Party, which is a celebration for families affected by HIV/AIDS.
WISH LIST: Gifts are for children age 16 and younger, costing between $10-20. Presents can be wrapped. (Indicate if gifts are for a boy, girl, or either, and for what age.) Gift cards for older children and monetary donations will also be accepted.
DEADLINE: Deliver gifts to Office of Information Technology/Enterprise Information Systems, 811 Marietta St., by Dec. 6.

ECE Book Drive
DETAILS: The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering is sponsoring a children’s book drive to benefit children who get medical services at Grady Hospital Community Clinics, which are public health clinics for underserved populations.
WISH LIST: Gently used and new children’s books. Books for young children/toddlers are particularly in demand at these clinics.  
DEADLINE: Dec. 18.

Toys for Tots
DETAILS: The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign Drive is collecting toys for children ages 2-16 in the Atlanta area.
WISH LIST: New, unwrapped toys. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
DEADLINE: Gifts may be delivered to locations across campus until Dec. 19.
